Last evening we saw The Malta’s Gaming Excellence Awards rewarding the best gaming companies in Malta for their hard work. The gaming industry in Malta, has grown to become one of the leading industries on the island. Over the years in Malta it has surpassed other industries to become a leader in the economic sector with over 10% of the worldwide gaming companies calling Malta their home or office rather.
The Malta’s Gaming Excellence Awards (MIGEA) is organised by Malta Business Review and Dynamic Events. It brings together the gaming industry in a glamorous yearly event to reward and celebrate their successes. This year the event was held at the 5 star Intercontinental Hotel , St. Julian’s with strict Covid-19 Regulations in place. Some of the sponsors and nominees of the event included Maltco Lotteries, Rootz, Pragmatic Play, Enteractive, Trustly, and Betconstruct to name a few.
MiGEA has now been organised for a number of consecutive years, featuring some of the best live entertainment in Malta during the award night. It is extraordinary that the event did manage to go ahead in these times despite all the regulations. Entertainers, presenters and everyone involved had a chance to give a live performance in the rare circumstances.
The Gaming Industry In Malta
The Gamining industry attracts various companies from across the world to invest in Malta. These range from IT to Fintech and Software Developers to Affiliate Marketers all focusing on bringing their platforms to meet the demands of the consumer. They create high value jobs, attracting a substantial amount of workers from across the globe. MiGEA 2020 is not the first live event to go ahead during the past months. It is however the first live Gaming event to go ahead with much restrictions in place. There were others like SiGMA’s iGatherings, before harsher restrictions imposed a halt on them completely.
We’re truly delighted to have welcomed 500+ #FriendsofSiGMA for a much-needed networking bonanza! We’re sure you enjoyed…

With hundreds of these type of companies finding their way here, it is not a surprise that live entertainment is an ongoing affair. To keep their employees happy, the companies need to provide innovative and adequate entertainment. However it is also a vitally important aspect of most of their networking events. So, while some may see entertainment as a manner to squander money, others see this as a much needed investment for their business.
An Industry In Need Of Entertainment
The creation of work for many entertainers in Malta and Gozo has been on an increase during the past years. Much of this can be attributed to these sort of events. Between the late 90s up to around 2015, incentive groups were the main source of events involving high end entertainment. The groups were mainly foreign companies wishing to meet up in Malta for their international corporate meetings.

Apart from day long conference these type of groups required evening entertainment. And thus, several DMCs and Event Organisers had an opportunity to set up great events for their clients. The change slowly started to evolve around 2010 with many gaming companies setting themselves up on the island.
Localising Demand and Supply
Most of this type of entertainment is now local, with most companies now book entertainment on a regular basis several times throughout the year. Therefore entertainers are now finding it more sustainable to invest time and money to develop new acts to meet the demand.
This also means that entertainers have to keep their performance up to scratch, in a modern and adequate manner, to keep them in demand. Demand requires performers of different genre such as musicians, singers, magicians, fire eaters, acrobatic acts, dancers and other types of performers. It also means that we are seeing more innovative local talents coming forth, which is good.
The Future
The current situation has in fact shown that the Gaming industry can survive pandemics such as the Corona Virus. This means that Gaming companies will always organise events requiring entertainment and we do not see this source dying soon.
Despite the sudden halt on most of the entertainment sector due to Covid, Entertainment will always be an industry that is needed to sustain other industries. Tourists need entertainment when they are on holiday. Local residents need to go places to let off steam. Companies will require entertainment for their events.
Therefore we think that there will always be a need for entertainment and entertainers should look forward to a brighter future. Do you agree?
