Malta’s Got Talent – Episode 1 Sun 4th Ocotober

It is exciting that Malta’s Got Talent is finally here on local television. This evening’s first ever show brings about some great acts ranging from magic, a fire act, singers, dancers, a mentalist and a young genius. Therefore we expect a truly entertaining evening with a lot to talk about during the coming weeks.

The Host

Gordon Bonello, is the host of this year’s edition. He is a very well known personality in Malta know for various local television comedy series. Gordon, portrays a good composition doing a great job of adding a little humor from backstage shots during the acts. The show takes advantage of his humor and his presentation skills where needed.

The Judges

These come from a choice from different sectors of the entertainment industry including theatre, television, music and social media.

Howard Keith Debono, is a well known music producer, manager and a past judge of X Factor Malta. He is now also the Chairperson of MEIA. Howard did a good job at judging the acts. We were expecting much more critic from Howard, but he did not go overboard and most of his criticism was positive.

Maxine Aquilina is a professionally trained musical theatre performer and teacher who works theatrically locally and abroad mainly in the United Kingdom. Her views on the acts perhaps come from her theatrical experience and her comments were very encouraging to all the participants.

Sarah Zerafa, is a well known social media influencer with a great following. She portrays a bubbly character and appears to be a very sweet person. We were unsure if her experience in the entertainment industry would be a good choice for a judge, however she give the acts a good view on how they can be perceived from an audience’s point of view.

Ray Attard is a well know local actor and presenter. His experience in television, both acting and presenting is vast and is very popular with audiences across Malta and Gozo. He too came across very encouraging and respectful to all those who participated.

So here’s the run down on those who obtained approval from our judges including an act that obtained the push of the Golden Buzzer from Ray Attard on tonight’s first program.

Tonight’s Acts
The Aspiring Ventriloquist

First up is a young lad, Kian together with his puppets Lola and Anthony. Kian, an aspiring ventriloquist, brings together what appears to be a funny and entertaining act that goes down well with the Judges. Take a look at the video below to see what the Judges have to say about the first act ever on Malta’s Got Talent.

The Fire Act

Next to go is 30 year old Justin Micallef. Justin goes on with his amazing fire act. This act is perfectly timed to some great music providing visual candy to the viewers at home. His costume blends in nicely with his act, so does the music he uses. All the elements bring together an interesting start to this evening’s program. He gains 4 yesses from our beautiful and handsome judges. Take a look at the exciting act below.

Dancing In Heels!

Up next is Yada ‘N’ Heels, 3 young dancers, Danielo, Raffael and Rosario who take dancing to a different level. The name ‘Yada’ is synonymous with Felix Busutil owner of the Yada Dance company. Watch them as they pump their hearts away to the beat of some great vibes. You can catch a glimpse of Felix in the wings from where he is watching the act from offstage. All Yesses for these fabulous dancers.

The Veteran Singer

Honestly speaking were were not expecting the next act, who is no other than Mario Morales. Mario is a very popular local teleshopping legend figure on local television. He is known to be able to sell Christmas trees in summer and fans in winter. Apart from that, Mario seems to have many hidden talents, including singing. Mario got his 4 yesses from the judges.

Adagio, Dance and Acrobats!

We are not sure if local television ever displayed the type of act that followed next on Malta’s Got Talent. However we know this sort of act goes down well with viewers due to the excitement it provides. Inefable display a spectacular act combined of acrobatics, dance and adagio moves. The whole team are absolutely fantastic and of course deserve the 4 yesses they obtain from the judges.

The Guitarist Singer

Denica a singer/guitarist from Macedonia, residing in Malta, is next up with an emotional song dedicated to her mother. Her version of Angel goes down nicely with the judges and surprises them with and an unexpected twist. However the highlight of this act occurs as the judges talk to Denica after her performance. The Macedonian singer surprises them and viewers at home by singing the popular local Maltese song ‘Xemx’. She earns herself 4 Yesses from our Judges.

Dance and Rock

We desperately need acts of this similar kind in the local scene, Next on Malta’s Got Talent, is the Kinetic Dance Academy.  The group of young dancers of different ages give us an impressive performance. Their original dance routine impress and entertain the judges and audience watching at home. Therefore an act that definitely deserves the 4 Yesses they receive.

The Young Genius

5 year old Christian is up next with his incredible memory act. Watch him infallibly call out what appears to be an endless amount countries as these are marked on the screen. He continues to impress everyone with even hard names such as the “Democratic Republic of Congo.” This was the first Golden Buzzer act of the series given by Ray Attard. Watch it!

Mind Reading

The last act on for the evening was a mentalist act. Michael Mock put on impressive act. He gets Gordon and Maxine up on stage and proceeds to transfer Maxine’s thoughts into Gordon’s head. Watch as Gordon starts hearing voices in his head when Michael touches it. Another 4 yesses for this act as well.

Well that concludes the first episode of Malta’s Got Talent ever to appear on local television. It made good entertaining television and we are very happy  the judges’ positive criticism. The production was excellently executed and we look forward to watching the second episode next week. You can follow the official Malta’s Got Talent FB page here.
